Latin AmericaMexico1913, May 25. 5c. Federal envelope sent from Torreón addressed to Chihuahua. After Pancho Villa took Jiménez and Santa Rosalía in April and Parral in May, Chihuahua and Ciudad Juárez were the only towns in the state which remained in Federal hands. The addressee was a soldier in the 6th Battalion, part of the Federal forces under General Mercado which were virtually isolated in Chihuahua by Villa's guerrillas. Stamped "Devuelta a su procedencia por estar clausurada la oficina de destino"; the word "clausurada was crossed out and "Incomunicado" written below. After an attempt to return it to the sender, it was retired to the dead letter office. Photo
