Latin AmericaCosta Rica1863, 2r. scarlet, (faint soiling caused by the gum, mentioned for accuracy), tied to envelope (reduced at left) to Paris by "Limon/28 Dic. 81/Costa Rica" c.d.s., carried via Panama showing, on front, blue "Colon/E. U. de Colombia" c.d.s. and French "Aspinwall/23 Dec 82/Paq. Fr. D. N°2" octagonal datestamp (Salles fig. 1503/2) denoting carriage by the "F. de Lesseps". Less than 20 covers bearing the first issue are recorded to France; this cover is of remarkable significance as it originates from Limón, being a very scarce cancellation in first-issue covers.
