Auction: SW1015 - The Philatelic Collector's Series
Lot: 186

1920, 1s. orange-yellow and red-orange, frame inverted, a very fine mint example of this important and popular inverted rarity, exhibiting a great freshness and bright colours, well centred for this issue, with original gum and lightly hinged in two places, boasting to be free of imperfections. This "inverted frame" was discovered by a local collector at the small post office in Manchioneal, a village on the coast of Jamaica in March 1922. It is believed that only one sheet of 60 must have had the error, with half of the sheet going to Manchioneal; the estimation of surviving examples vary from ten to no more of 20. A highly desirable variety which is very infrequently offered at auction, with this sale being an excellent opportunity to obtain a beautiful and sound example of this highly desirable British Empire's rarity, also representing one of the premier inverted printings in the world. R.P.S. certificate (1979). S.G. 30a = £ 40,000.
