1927, March 28. De Pinedo Flight, Port-au-Prince-New York Stage. Cover to Ironton, Ohio, franked by 1924 10c. and 50c., tied by "Avion" rubber cancel and dispacth c.d.s. Before the arrival of De Pinedo, the Italian ''chargé d'affaires'' was asked by the Haitian postal authorities whether De Pinedo would carry airmail to USA, a request which was initially accepted. De Pinedo, as usual, arguing that the fact of carriage correspondence would bring him bad luck, refused; part of the mail was then conveyed by sea to destination. Scott 316, 318.
