Deutsche Luftschiffahrts-AG. Aktie 1000 M, Frankfurt, 1. August 1910. #681. Founders share of one of the most important company in history of aviation: Deutsche Luftschiffahrts-AG (short DELAG), the world's first passenger airline was founded by the initiative of Alfred Colsmann, Director of Luftschiffbau Zeppelin GmbH, on the 16. November 1909 for all commercial operations of the Zeppelins built by the Luftschiffbau with a total capital of 3 Mio. Mark. Prominent shareholders were several German cities like Frankfurt and Düsseldorf. These cities also built the necessary airship hangars at their own expense. 15 per cent of the DELAG's capital came from the Luftschiffbau Zeppelin in the form of airships. The company's headquarters were located in Frankfurt. Until World War I, DELAG's fleet -a total of six Zeppelin Airships- had transported 34,028 passengers on 1,588 commercial flights and had flown 172,535 kilometres. During WWI the German army requisitioned the company’s airships. After the war, the famous pilot Hugo Eckener took over the management of the company. However in 1921, the two remaining Zeppelins had to be handed over to Italy and France as post-war reparation payments. In 1928, DELAG started the successful operation of the famous LZ 127 Graf Zeppelin, which made regular, nonstop, transatlantic flights from Germany to New York and Rio. Under Reich Minister of Aviation Hermann Göring the company had to be liquidated and the airships had to be handed over to the newly formed Deutsche Zeppelin-Reederei DZR. Delag shareholders received RM 51.50 per share in 1936. DZR continued passenger service only until May 1937 when its airship LZ 129 Hindenburg Hindenburg caught fire at Lakehurst. Printed signatures of Franz Adickes (1846-1915) Mayor of the city of Frankfurt as Aufsichtsrat, Alfred Colsmann (1873-1955) and Johann Andreae-Passavant (1841-1915) Lawyer and banker from Frankfurt, as Vorstand.
