Manufacture de produits chimiques de Pouilly-sur-Saône (Cote-d’Or) Apparuti Mollerat & Cie. Action Immobilière F 5.000 F, Pouilly-sur-Saone 1878. #137. Jean-Baptiste Mollerat (1772-1855) was one of the important French pioneers in Chemistry. In the early years of the chemical industry, in 1809, Mollerat established this Chemical Factory in Pouilly-sur-Saône / Dijon. He specialised in the process of carbonisation and distillation of wood and other material for use in the metallurgical and textile industry. In 1878 the company was transformed into a Limited Partnership with a capital of F 800’000 divided into 160 parts. Gustave Eiffel (1832-1923) was Mollerat’s nephew. Gustave grew up in the neighbourhood of the factory. He adored his uncle Jean-Baptiste and spent most of his free time with him and in his factory. Here he found his enthusiasm for science and was regularly instructed by Mollerat in Chemistry and many other subjects. EF.
