1845, 600r. black, greyish paper, fine impression, an extraordinary block of six (2x3) from the base of the sheet, showing a moderately mis-aligned cliché at bottom left, just touched or slightly cut into at right, with excellent margins on the other sides displaying marginal rule at bottom, lightly cancelled by “Correio Geral Da Corte” cds’s which leave most of the designs clear. Small thin spots at top of no importance for this rarity. This multiple was initially composed of seven units when acquired by Heitor Sánchez around 1921, the seventh adhesive being defective and later removed by its subsequent owner Guilherme Guinle. Previously, this piece was the title page illustration of a famous auction sale held in Brazil in 1922 to commemorate the Centenary of Independence, which demonstrates the immense importance of this item. The largest multiple recorded of this value used postally, of great significance being the highest denomination both of this issue and of the classic issues of Brazil. A gem of South American philately. Cert. Moorhouse. RHM 10. Ex Sánchez, Guinle, Weiszflog, D’Almeida, Pracchia, Lima, Benevides and Hubbard.
