Lot: 32

1845, 90r. black, greyish paper, intermediate impression, a magnificent block of six (2x3), type II at top and type I in the lower block of four, thus positioning this multiple as originating from the base of the sheet (the first plate used to print 90 r. values was made up of type I cliches in the lower two rows at base, with the remainder of the plate alternating types II & I in the vertical rows). Fresh impression, graced by balanced ample margins all round, cancelled by “Correio Geral Da Corte” datestamps (16 July 1847). Thin spot in central margin at top, of absolutely no significance. An extremely rare multiple with its great importance endorsed by the fact that, to our knowledge, only three multiples, from the base of the sheet, but comprising of types II & I, are recorded. This key piece proves that one plate, comprised of vertically alternated types I & II, included two consecutive horizontal rows at base solely made up of type I electros. Cert. Moorhouse. RHM 7+7A. Ex Benevides and Hubbard.
