Auction: SW1009B - The Collector's Series - Latin America
Lot: 1113
1921, "$ 30 c", violet surcharge on 50c. pale green, two-thirds showing only a fraction of the surcharge, used together with a not overprinted 50c. pale green on October 1921 cover to New York flown to Barranquilla by the "Colombia", each tied by three-line SCADTA handstamp covering the down-river 70c. rate per 45 grams, and the required National Post 3c. (3) tied by Barranquilla large c.d.s. Illustrated on page 25 and page 49 of Kessler's and Gebauer's handbooks of air post in Colombia (see also previous lot). An extraordinary and unique usage of this adhesive, being part of the four covers defined by Eugenio Gebauer as the "the greatest find in SCADTA stamps" (all offered in this sale). We would like to remark, once more, the importance of the fact that this is a commercial correspondence and the exceptional nature of a bisect-usage in the provisional surcharged issues. An exhibition item of great calibre. Signed Rendon. Colomphil 8 (var); Scott C24. Ex Philip G. Cole, Thomas A. Matthews, Eugenio Gebauer and Debby Friedman.
