1920, the multicoloured "Curtiss Aviation" labels -without gum as made-, set of 19 different examples to be used by the Compañía Colombiana de Navegación Aérea company for overprints, including the basic designs issued, as well as ten designs which were not used for surcharge. These "modernist" labels were originally executed for publicity purposes -in cigarette packs- of the "Curtiss Aeroplane and Motor Co. Inc." of Buffalo, New York. When a first projected issue for the C.C.N.A. could not be delivered on time for the first flight on 22.2.1920, nine of these "Curtiss" designs were selected to serve as values (to be overprinted) to frank the airmails; it seems that these "Curtiss" labels were available for sale in a stationery store at Barranquilla. All examples, except one, being marginal with wording and "Curtiss" side imprint. Four examples with usual faint tone spots, in no way detracting from this magnificent group of great visual delight. A very rare group of 19 different designs, a must for the introduction in an advanced collection on this issue. Ex Eugenio Gebauer.
