Lot: 547

1879, ´´Arms of Choco´´ Issue, 5c. black, impression of rich colour, very slightly touched in part of right margin, otherwise well margined, cancelled ´´Riosucio´´ in manuscript on single weight envelope from Río Sucio to Quibdó, endorsed ´´Con encomienda $ 100 de 8/10´´ at bottom left. Several cover imperfections including vertical creases and small portions of paper lacking mostly in edges. Atrato Province also operated a State postal route linking Quibdó with the gold-mining areas of the Sucio River. A gem of Colombian States, supported by the fact that only two covers are recorded franked by this primitive and fascinating stamp, both offered in this sale, this being unique exhibiting just one example. Cert. Moorhouse. Yvert 1A. Ex Ferrary and Burrus. Starting Price US$ 3,000
