Auction: SW1002 - Latin America, including the Tito Collection - Part I
Lot: 528
1862, 10c. blue, type III, strip of three, just cut slightly into at left with wide margins on the other sides, applied on envelope from Bogotá to Dudley (England) paying the domestic rate to Colon, tied by ´´Bogotá´´ oval pearl handstamps, with red Colon oval marking and ´´2/4´´ Shillings manuscript rate to be paid upon arrival on front. Reverse showing British ´´Colon/No 7/1862´´ double arc, London transit and arrival, these dates proving that this issue, contrary to what it is erroneously stated in catalogues, was put into circulation in 1862 and not in 1863, this cover being the second earliest recorded for this issue. Some age toning overall and two small portions of paper loss in left corners of envelope which have been restored on the reverse with pieces of paper, of absolutely no importance for this, the largest multiple of this denomination on cover. A very desirable item for both collectors of Colombian and Panamanian postal history. Cert. Bortfeldt. Scott 25a. Ex Londoño and Frohlich. Starting Price US$ 1,500
