Auction: SW1002 - Latin America, including the Tito Collection - Part I
Lot: 527

1862, 10c. blue, type III, an astonishing block of nine with the bottom row, from the base of the sheet, printed sideways. Exhibiting a clear double impression variety in a grayish shade, positions 50-54 / 57-60, unused without gum with well-spaced margins on all four sides. A couple surface scuffs on reverse and negligible wrinkles, not visible on front, none of which detracting. Dieter Bortfeldt, in his certificate issued in 2006, stated this item to be ´´probably the most spectacular piece of classic Colombia´´. Offered for the first time at public auction, this item, featuring a unique double impression in this issue -the double impression variety being also recorded but in just one example of the later and less significant eighth classic issue-, must be considered as one of the great gems of Colombian philately. Cert. Bortfeldt and Rendon. Starting Price US$ 25,000
