1940 (30 May) commercial air mail envelope to Johannesburg bearing, on the reverse, $10.70 franking tied by Shanghai c.d.s. with Hong Kong transit and Hong Kong censor seal. Pays triple rate of 50c. + 3 times $3.40 (airmail to South Africa). Also 1940 (6 Apr.) pictorial envelope to London bearing 95c. franking tied by Peking c.d.s. (occupied China) with Par Avion etiquette, triangular Hong Kong "9" censor handstamp and boxed handstamp, Victoria backstamp (11.4); the rate revisions of unoccupied China were ignored by the governments in the northern provinces and the rate had increased three times since the 95c. rate.
