China: Yuan Dynasty, Da Chao Tong Bao, (1271-1368), silver coin, 23.2x1.9mm, 3.7g, Zhong Qian 78. Da Chao Tong Bao was issued by Genghis Khan in 1227 before he renamed the Mongol Empire as 'Yuan'. Out of respect for the Khitan leader Abaoji who united northern China and founded the Liao Dynasty in 907 he named his new state 'Da Chao' as the Chinese character 'Da' has one stroke less than the word 'Tian'. 'Tian Chao' or Heavenly Kingdom, as it might be translated in English, is the respectful name Genghis Khan called the Liao Dynasty. Dr. Werner Burger Collection [123]


元朝大朝通寶銀幣， 23.2x1.9mm, 重3.7克，中乾評78 大朝通寶是成吉思汗於1227年把蒙古帝國改名為“元”之前發行的。出於對遼朝建國者阿保機的尊重，成吉思汗把新國家命名為“大朝”，因為漢字“大”字比“天”字少了一筆，這反映出成吉思汗的巧思
