Auction: CSS82C - The Prestigious Academic Reference Collection of the Late Dr. Werner Burger: Part 1
Lot: 2129

Kara-Khanid Khanate, group of 7 bronze coins, circa 840-1212, One of the captials of the Kara-Khanid Khanate is modern day Kashgar of the Xinjiang region of China and very much related to the peripheral kingdoms and khanates of empirical China, such as their invasion of Turgesh lands (refer to lot xxx) and the Qocho Uyghurs (refer to lot xxx), thus playing a major role in Islamicisation and Turkicisation of Xinjiang. Chinese text also recorded that the Khanate sent emissaries for recognition and protection from the Song Dynasty. In mid 12th Century, the Khanate became a Qara Khitai (also known as Western Liao, remnants of the Liao Dynasty) suzerainty. Not much is certain with the history of the Kara-Khanid Khanate and a major part of it is reconstructed in part of studies on their coinage, such as the 7 on offer here. Very Good to Very Fine. An interesting group of academic importance. (7) Dr. Werner Burger Collection
