Auction: CSS75 - THE SOUTH EAST ASIAN COLLECTION PART III
Lot: 4069
Malaya and British Borneo, uniface reverse archival photographic proof for an unissued $10, ca.17th April 1952, bird at centre, arms of member states at bottom, denomination at upper left and right corners, pencil inscription on reverse 'With amended hints'.
Issuing body not named on the note but clearly intended for the new 1953 issue.
A spectacular archival photogrpahic proof.
A wonderful modernistic design, way ahead of its time, for the new issue of the Currency Board, which ultimately appeared less than a year later, dated 21st March 1953. One could speculate that the Singapore bird series of a few years later (1976) was inspired by this design and this designer. For an absolutely unique item and highly important for the development of British South East Asian currency.
