1959 (23 Apr.) a commercial letter from Hamburg to Canton "p overland mail vial Marseilles", prepaid via Thurn and Taxis postal system, with Hamburg despatch, Valenciennes (25.4) and Marseilles (26.4) c.d.s. The flap bears a fine strike of the very rare Hong Kong broken ring (type 12) arrival c.d.s. (5.6) struck in blue-black.


This is the latest date of this postmark recorded by Proud and the only example known on this correspondence. A very fine example of this rare and elusive datestamp and the key items of Hong Kong postal markings. Photo
