Canton River - Cum Sing Mun Harbour: 1836, three entire letters to E. Cooke in Canton from his cousin on board the 'Water Witch' at "Cunsing Moon" dated (11 July), (5 Aug.) and (14 Aug.). He gives details of ths ships and shipping including, "...yesterday several of the ships suffered a good deal, we expect to get our main mast down the day after tomorrow...", "... a regular typhoon ... the Portuguese Barque ... about 30 miles to the west of Macau was .. totally lost.", "I also heard ... had made up their minds not ... more than 500 chests of opium on one ship".
