Military Mail
1897 (20 Jan.) envelope from the Chief Stoker on H.M.S. 'Centurion' in Hong Kong, addressed to Brighton with pair of 2c. carmine tied by Hong Kong Code "B" c.d.s. with a second strike alongside, countersigned by the commanding officer in lower left corner. A little roughly opened at top and light soiling. Photo
The right hand 2c. shows a large spot on the Queen's neck, a result of a round foreign body getting onto the printing plate, quite unusual on these printings and a dramatic addition to the appeal of this cover
For other mail addressed to H.M. ships, please see lot 3105 (H.M.S. Melville)
