'Linnet' in "Canton" to the Royal Naval Barracks in Sheerness bearing G.B. 1881 1d. lilac (2) cancelled by "176" barred ovals with Hong Kong code "B" c.d.s. alongside; correctly countersigned by the commanding officer. With Sheerness arrival (16.1) on the reverse with some addition notation written on the envelope

HMS Linnet (1880) was a composite screw gunvessel launched in 1880. After she was sold in 1904, the ship was converted to a salvage vessel.
