1856 (19 Aug.) stampless entire letter from Boston to Canton, bearing large Boston Paid date postmark in red, features are crayon mark "48" at the top left, and a manuscript "53" on top right. On the back with Hong Kong transit on 2 Nov. 1856 cds (Webb type 9). Last mail arrived at Canton post office before it was destroyed by rioting and fire in December 1856. A letter with historical significance.
