1857-58 a part correspondence from a carpenter on H.M.S. 'Niger' whilst stationed off Canton or Hong Kong with 1857 (9 June) envelope and letter to his parents in Rochdale, countersigned by the commanding officer and bearing G.B. 1d. stars tied by London numeral; with the original letter (with transcript) giving some details of the battle. Another envelope 1858 (24 Jan.) countersigned by the commanding officer to Rochdale bearing G.B. 1d. Stars cancelled by London number with the original letter (and transcript), two other letters home to his parents and hand-delivered local envelope addressed to James Emmett on H.M.S. 'Niger'. Condition is quite mixed but an interesting group with some additional background information. Photo
