1894 (9 July) envelope from the Municipal Council registered to Shanghai bearing a fine strike of “kewkiang/paid/local post” oval struck in purple and with crossed red crayon marks, the reverse with a good strike of the Kewkiang Local Post dated oval and Shanghai Local Post arrival c.d.s. (12.7); there are two stain marks on the address side and a few hinge remainders on the reverse.


A very interesting cover. This is the earliest recorded date of use of the Paid handstamp (previously recorded as in August) and very rare officially registered mail which was probably used before the introduction of the boxed registered handstamp. A very important and unique cover. Photo


1894年7月9日寄上海掛號封, 蓋橢圓形郵資已付九江工部戳, 並有紅筆的交叉記號; 封背蓋清晰的橢圓形九江工部日戳及7月12日上海工部到達戳. 此封是九江郵資已付戳的最早使用例 (之前的記錄是八月). 亦是方框型掛號戳使用前的官式掛號封. 非常獨特的珍貴九江封.
