Q.V. 10c, registered envelope, size F, to Punjab, India with additional 10c. purple on red tied by Shanghai c.d.s. with "R" in circle and handstruck oval with manuscript number insertion, the reverse with Tuticorin arrival (26.10). Sent by the commanding officer of the of the 1st battalion 4th Goorkha Rifles in Shanghai. Registration was not part of the original C.E.F. service and this correspondence needed to be sent through the civilian post office at Shanghai. A very early date of use of the registered envelope
