Germany: 1871 (7 July) blue envelope to Hamburg "Via Brindisi" bearing 4c. and 48c. tied by "B62" in black, with Bourjau, Hubener & Co company oval in blue, "2/2" rate mark in red, handstruck "P.D." and Marseille transit (19.8), the reverse with despatch and arrival (21.8) c.d.s. A double-rate franking

The Franco-Prussian War meant the French Post Office had to use Brindisi and pay the Italian transit rate, 26c. being the rate to Germany, 16 February 1871 to 30 June 1871
