Type R: 1870 (1 Nov.) Davis envelope to London "Via Marseilles" bearing 2c. brown and 30c. vermilion (faults) plus 18c. Crown CC (paying the late fee) tied by "B62" with rate marks in red ink and a fine strike of the boxed "insufficiently paid/for brindisi route/deficient postage/d3"in black, the reverse with Hong Kong and London (2) c.d.s. (26.12). Due to the Franco-Prussian War, Marseilles was closed; 32c. was the correct rate for Marseilles, but via Brindisi it was 38c. Fine and rare (Webb RR) very few examples known from Hong Kong
