(Hon. Maj.) N.K. Millar (96293), B.W., Highland Brigade, retired Major Norman Kinnaird Millar, T.D., born 1.5.1906, the son of Lieutenant A.J. Millar; Commissioned from the ranks Second Lieutenant, 7th Battalion, The Black Watch (Royal Highland Regiment), 30.8.1939; served with the Battalion in North Africa on the Alamein Line, where he was wounded, 28.10.1942 (Battalion War Diary refers); Captain and Temporary Major, 15.12.1943. At the end of the War Millar married the harpist Miss Sidonie Goossens, O.B.E., the daughter of Eugene Goossens, the conductor, and brother of Sir Eugene Goossens, the celebrated composer and conductor. In civilian life Millar worked as administrator to Sir Thomas Beecham, the conductor, whilst still serving in the Territorial Army. He died in April 1991, the year his wife became, at 91, the oldest person ever to perform at the Last Night of the Proms.
