Great Britain 1840 Mulready One Penny Letter sheets A54, dated 28 May 1840 and used from Waterford to Lisburn, cancelled in error by a very good strike of an extremely rare black Maltese Cross, which was not used officially until February 1841, partially overstruck by a red Maltese Cross (each the Waterford first type), on reverse Waterford c.d.s. and red Dublin datestamp (29 May), fine. An extraordinary and unique combination of black and red Maltese Crosses on a Mulready in May 1840 and the earliest recorded use of a black Maltese Cross on a Mulready used in Ireland. B.P.A.
