Niger Coast Protectorate Forcados 1900 (23 Sept.) 2d. H size registered envelope (opened-out), uprated with 1897-98 1d. vermilion (2, one on reverse) and 2d. lake (3), to London, each cancelled with "registered/forcados" oval d.s., London Registered hooded d.s. (13.10) on face, the reverse endorsed "Registration fee 3d." and with London c.d.s. (15.10); some light staining in places though not unattractive. S.G. 67a, 68. Photo Estimate £ 300-350 Note: In 1899 a Capt. Elgee introduced pigeon in order to start a postal service between Lagos and Forcados. The above lot is accompanied by a Pigeon Post form of the sort likely to have been used, although its exact origin is not certain
