The Royal Niger Company´s Territories 1888-99 Handstruck Stamps Burutu "the royal niger company,/chartered & limited./post office/burutu." double-framed d.s. in seriffed letters. Sacher Type 10, S.G. Type 4 1898 (May) unstamped envelope to London, marked "Active Service. River Niger Illo. West Africa" and "No stamps available", showing "2d" charge mark in violet (apparently the same colour as the Burutu datestamp) and the reverse with a fine strike of the datestamp for 14 May alongside Liverpool Br. Packet c.d.s. (6.6); a few pinholes and small puncture at upper left though most unusual. Photo Estimate £ 600-700 Note: Imperial Penny Postage was introduced on 28 December 1898. As this letter has been charged it would appear to have weighed 1oz.
