The Rare Royal Humane Society Medal with Four Bars to Ship´s Fireman J.J. Carr, All Five Awards for Rescuing People from the River Tyne, Newcastle Royal Humane Society, small bronze medal, successful (John James Carr. May. 31. 1900.), with Second Award Bar, dated July. 30 1900, with Third Award Bar, dated 10: Aug: 1902, with Fourth Award Bar, dated July. 2. 1904, and with Fifth Award Bar, dated 23rd. April 1912, with later silver top riband buckle, edge bruising, very fine and rare Estimate £ 350-450 On the 31st May 1900 Mr. W. Gallagher jumped from the swing bridge into the River Tyne at Gateshead, 12-14 feet deep, with a strong ebb tide. John Carr jumped in from a boat, caught the man 12 yards from the bank and, after drifting some 50 yards they were picked up by a boat. (Medal approved 16.7.1900). On the 30th July 1900 Joseph Banks, aged 6, while at play fell into the River Tyne at Newcastle, 12 feet deep, with a strong current. John Car jumped in, caught the lad, and landed him at the steps. (First Clasp approved 15.10.1900). On the 10th August 1902 J.G. Anderson, aged 8, while at play fell into the River Tyne at Newcastle, 18 feet deep, sinking under a barge. John Carr jumped in fully clothed, dived, caught the boy, and swam with him 10 yards to the landing. (Second Clasp approved 15.3.1902). On the 2nd July 1904 William Fisher, aged 10, fell into the river at Fish Quay, River Tyne, Newcastle, 16 feet deep, with a strong ebb tide. John Carr went in fully clothed, swam 15 yards, and effected the rescue although he hurt himself as he jumped in. (Third Clasp approved 15.7.1904) On the 23rd April 1912 Mr. Peter Stephenson fell from the quay into the River Tyne at Newcastle, 27 feet deep, strong flood tide. John Carr at once plunged in fully clothed and brought him to the side where he got out. (Fourth Clasp approved 11.6.1912)
