New Zealand 1845-66, reverse dated 1847 (J. Alford, Pte. R.M., H.M.S. Inflexible), suspension loose, contact marks, good fine, very rare Estimate £ 1,000-1,200 Approximately 21 New Zealand medals dated 1847 were awarded, 20 of which were issued to H.M.S. Inflexible; 12 of which are recorded as known in Naval Medals 1793-1856, K. Douglas-Morris. A medal with this date reverse is recorded as known to Captain T.B. Collinson, Royal Engineers in British Battles and Medals. John Alford, born Wincanton, Somerset; joined Royal Marines, 1845; service including in H.M.S.´´s Constance, Calliope, Perseverance and Inflexible, the latter 20.6.1846-28.9.1849.
