x Indian Stamps used in the Straits Settlements 1855-65 Typographed Issues Singapore Mail to the United States of America 1862 (Jan.) envelope to Oyster Bay, NY, marked "via Southampton", bearing 8p. purple pair, 4a. black and 8a. carmine (all are defective), each cancelled "B/172", showing red ink "1/7", London Paid transit c.d.s. overstruck by "16/cents" accountancy h.s., New York transit d.s. (5.3) and, on reverse, "singapore/p.o." double-ring d.s. in red. A most attractive franking illustrating the 13a.4p. per 1/2oz. rate via Southampton effective 24 July 1858.
