South American and General Steam Navigation Company, £50 shares, part paid, 185(3), no. 79, black on pale blue paper, good very fine and scarce. Operated services, including bi-monthly mail contracts between the United Kingdom and South America from 1853. Sadly the ´Argentina´ was wrecked in the River Plate in 1853 and the ´Olinda´ in the following year. Several of their vessels were commandeered for service in the Crimea and the company never resumed a regular service. Estimate £ 60-80
