Sidmouth Harbour Company, certificate for 1 share, 18(36), black printing, on vellum, hanging wax & paper seal, good very fine. Formed in 1836 to build a harbour enclosing 10 acres of land at Chit Rocks. The foundation stones of the piers were laid in 1837 but further stone was to be transported by a small industrial railway built by the company. Troubled by lack of capital and a severe storm the railway and the harbour were never completed and some remains can still be seen today. Estimate £ 150-180
