Sudan The First Suakin Expedition 1885 (1 Apr.) India 9p. Soldiers´ and Seaman´s envelope (central vertical fold and small faults at top) from "Passed Medl Pupil Abraham Samuel No. 2 Field Hospital Native Followers British Troops" at Suakin to Bombay, countersigned by the Commanding Officer and cancelled with "field p.o." c.d.s., the reverse with Sea Post Office (23.4) and two Bombay (4.5) c.d.s. Photo Estimate £ 500-600 Note: A base and two field hospitals accompanied the regiments of the 10,517 strong Indian Contingent which went out to Sudan from India on the orders of the British Government. With the force went an Indian Field Post Office establishment provided by the Bombay Postmaster-General. The Base Post Office opened at Suakin on 8th. March 1885 and remained in operation until 25th. November
