Iran The Persian Field Force, 1856-57 1857 (20 Mar.) entire "From Corpl. Geo. Brown Gl No. 1313 1/2 Arty" at Bushire to London, countersigned by the Commanding Officer and showing oval-framed "india" h.s. overstruck by "2" charge h.s., the reverse with a largely fine strike of the "field force/bg/persia" c.d.s. in red, Bombay (12.4) and London (23.5) c.d.s. The only known British soldiers cover from the Persian Field Force. Photo Estimate £ 2,000-2,500 Note: 1st. Company 2nd. Battalion Bombay Foot Artillery formed part of the 2nd. Division Persian Field Force. The unit was about to depart from Bushire with the Muhammerah Expeditionary Force. On 26 March the Company, working a mortar battery, was towed on rafts to fire on the Persians. The artillery was the only arm of the army to engage the enemy
