India 1870 (29 Mar.) part printed soldier´s envelope from "364 Corpl. E A J Davies "J" Company 105th. Light Infantry" at Meerut "via Southampton" to New York, countersigned by the Commanding Officer and bearing 8p. purple strip of three cancelled with "131" duplex and additionally tied by London Paid c.d.s. (2.5), showing U.S. "3" charge h.s. and, on reverse, Bombay c.d.s. (2.4). Photo Estimate £ 300-350 Note: British G.P.O. Instruction No. 41 of 21 October 1869 stated "On the 1st. January next, and henceforward, the combined rate of British and United States´´ postage on letters posted in the United Kingdom addressed to any part of the United States, and whether conveyed by Packet or Private Ship, will be reduced to Three-pence per half ounce .....provided such postage be pre-paid"
