India The Indian Mutiny, 1857-59 1858 (7 Apr.) 1/2a. blue lettersheet from 2nd. Lieutenant K.J.W. Coghill, Adjutant of the 2nd. European Bengal Fusiliers at Delhi Palace to Private J. Crawford of H.M. 83rd. Regiment at Fort Ajmere and forwarded to Nusserabad advising that his brother, who had been a Private in the Fusiliers, had died at Subathoo in 1856, cancelled "64" in diamond of bars and showing, on reverse, a fair strike of the "delhi/paid" circular h.s. and Ajmere c.d.s., both in red. Photo Estimate £ 200-250 Note: The 2nd. European Bengal Fusiliers took an active part in the siege of Delhi and its capture in September 1857, suffering many killed and wounded in action.. When Delhi fell the regiment was ordered to occupy the Palace. A post office of the Delhi Field Force was established in the city as Delhi´´s original post office had been destroyed by the mutineers
