India The Second Sikh War, 1848-49 1849 (3 June) entire letter "Soldiers Letter From Sergeant Major Munaz 1st. B.E. Regt. Fusiliers" at Camp Peshawar to England, countersigned by the Commanding Officer and showing a strike of the rare oval-framed "peshawur/free" (HG3, one of only two recorded examples) and oval-framed "india" over-cancelled with "2" rate h.s., the reverse with London (23.8) and Warminster (23.8) c.d.s.; a sad letter reporting to the addressee the death of his brother, who had been killed while serving at the storming of Mooltan. Photo Estimate £ 300-400 Note: The letter has been drawn up as if it were written by Sergeant Major Munaz, in order to qualify for the privilege rate. It was in fact written by Lieutenant W.M. Mules, who was appointed Adjutant to the regiment on 29 May 1849. Although contrary to regulations it may have been overlooked by the Commanding Officer in view of the sad content
