India 1846 small native envelope (complete with contents, written in native script) "From Silden Singh Nararn" of the 10th. Irregular Cavalry at Cashyapore to Delhi and redirected to Loodhiana, countersigned by the Commanding Officer and showing, on reverse, blurred part "delhie/free" oval-framed d.s.; a few small faults though rare as very few Indian soldiers were able to either read or write Estimate £ 100-120 Note: The Indian Post Office Act of 1837 entitled letters of a single weight, from Indian Commissioned as well as Non-Commissioned Officers and private soldiers to pass free on Indian internal postage. The letters were required to be addressed in English. Under Post Office Regulation XXXIX of the 1837 Act "The number of letters Commissioned Native Officers, Non-Commissioned Officers and Privates are entitled to be franked (for free postage) shall not exceed daily one per Troop or Company"
