Afghanistan 1st. Afghan War, 1838-42 1842 (8 Mar.) entire letter "From Thos. Knight Pte. No. 357 in H.M. 31st." at Ferozepore "via Bombay" to England, countersigned by the Commanding Officer and showing oval-framed "india" and London Paid tombstone d.s. (11.5); a little soiled and with small edge faults though with interesting contents with the writer on the march to Kabul to relieve the British troops surrounded in the fort at Jhalabad, together with a copy of an eye-witness account of the "disaster which befel our troops in Cabul". The army marched from Agra on 15 January and arrived at Peshawar on 21 April
