Afghan War, 1838-42 1841 (13 May) entire letter "From Sergeant Major Edwd Quinlivan Artlillery Mountain Train S S Force" at Camp Kabul to Ireland, countersigned by the Commanding Officer and with manuscript "2" rate mark, the reverse with oval-framed "india", two UK. transit d.s. and Galway arrival c.d.s. (7.8). Photo Estimate £ 700-800 Note: "S.S." in the heading of the letter referes to Shah Soojah who replaced Dost Mohamed, Amir of Afghanistan, and who was enthroned at Cabul on 7 August 1839. The Mountain Train was part of the army Soojah brought with him when he entered Afghanistan and was stationed at the Kabul Cantonment at Sherpur
