Royal Institute of British Architects, gold medal, 1910, by George William De Saulles, head of Edward VII left, signed des below truncation, rev. shield above legend in six lines within olive wreath ´The Royal Institute of British Architects- Incorporated 1837-1887´, edge engraved in capital letters thomas graham jackson r.a. 1910, 119g, 54mm., extremely fine, extremely rare, one of the ten medals awarded during the reign, gold mount attached at 12 o´clock Estimate £ 800-1,000 The Royal Gold Medal, awarded annually by the RIBA with the approval of the monarch, recognises an individual´´s, or more recently, a group´´s contribution to international architecture. Winners include Sir Giles Gilbert Scott (1925) and Frank Lloyd Wright (1941). In 1991 the medal was awarded to the City of Barcelona for ´´evidence of Collective Inspiration´´. Sir Thomas Graham Jackson (1835-1924), educated at Brighton College and Wadham College, Oxford, was articled as a pupil to Sir George Gilbert Scott . Through his connections in academia he secured many important commissions and became one of the most distinguished architects of his generation. He is best remembered for his work at Oxford for various colleges and the University, including the Examination Schools, Hertford College (including the Bridge of Sighs over New College Lane), Brasenose College and Trinity College.
