Staffordshire, Tamworth, F. Blick, Halfpenny, 1799, the Castle and Church, rev. cypher FB, edge milled (cf. DH.23 - plain edge), extremely fine, toned, extremely rare Estimate £ 120-150 PROVENANCE: Bought 1927, ´from a descendant of the issuer of token. [unreadable word] milled subsequently as a trial for [apparently ´Wp´´]´´ on ticket. The milling is upright and indeed seems to have been applied later, but skilfully. A milled edge variety was recorded without further comment by E.A. Watkin in ´Staffordshire tokens and their place in the coinage of England´´, North Staffordshire Journal of Field Studies 1 (1961). 72 struck originally with plain edge
