A Naval Long Service and Good Conduct Medal to Chief Stoker Charles Phillips, Who Was Killed when the Submarine H.M.S. Maidstone Was Mined 21.1.1915 Naval Long Service & G.C., E.VII.R. (282526 Charles Phillips, Actg. Ch. Sto, H.M.S. Hermione.), light contact marks, therefore very fine Estimate £ 60-80 Chief Stoker Charles Phillips, born Briningham, Norfolk 1875; joined as Second Class Stoker, 1896; served in various Ship´´s including H.M.S. Hermione from 1910-1912; and H.M. S/M. "E10" Maidstone from 28.8.1914 - 21.1.1915., on the 18.1.1915 the "E10" left Yarmouth with the submarine "E5", both vessels ran foul of a minefield in the North Sea; Chief Stoker Charles Phillips was killed as a consequence, 21.1.1915, he is commemorated on the Portsmouth Naval Memorial.
