A Great War Group of Three to Private W. Jerred, Wiltshire Regiment, Killed in Action, 16.9.1914 1914 Star, with Bar (8895 Pte. W. Jerred. 1/Wilts:R.); British War and Victory Medals (8895 Pte. W. Jerred. Wilts.R.), good very fine or better (3) Estimate £ 180-220 8895 Private William Jerred, born Salisbury; served during the Great War with the 1st Battalion Wiltshire Regiment on the Western Front from 14.8.1914; he was killed in action 16.9.1914; from the 14th - 23rd September the 1st Battalion were heavily engaged in the battle of the Aisne; the Battalion War Diary entry for the 16th September 1914 gives, ´´still in same position 2nd Cavalry Brigade came up on our right and thus link us with 4th Brigade. Enemy seen in entrenching a position, 200 yards to our North East, in front of 4th Brigade. Guards to our right pushed forward a patrol at night to draw enemy fire from about Polemprise Farm´´; Jerred is commemorated on La Ferte-sous-Jouarre Memorial, Seine-et-Marne, France.
