A Great War Group of Three to Private F. Gould, Wiltshire Regiment, Died of Wounds, 17.12.1917 1914 Star, with Bar (7626 Pte. F. Gould. 1/Wilts.R.); British War and Victory Medals (7626 Pte. F. Gould. Wilts. R.), nearly extremely fine, with Cap Badge Estimate £ 160-200 7626 Private Frank Gould, born Romsey, Hampshire; served during the Great War with the 1st Battalion Wiltshire Regiment on the Western Front from 14.8.1914; he died of wounds 17.12.1917; the 1st Battalion War Diary entry for 17.2.1917 gives, ´´Romarin, the raid was carried out in conjunction with a party of 10th Cheshires.... zero hour was 10.40am the enemy seemed taken quite by surprise and his trenches were taken with slight loss. All objectives were seized with the exception of Factory Farm, where stout resistance was offered. Elsewhere very few of the enemy were found, it is believed about 20 Germans were killed in this the battalion´´s objectives exclusive of casualties caused by shellfire. No prisoners were taken and no identification was pursued. The casualties obtained were: killed 4 other ranks, 26 wounded, 1 died of wounds, 1 missing. The majority caused by hostile machine gun fire which was bought to bear upon the parties as they returned to our line´´; Gould is buried in the Nieppe Communal Cemetery, Nord, France.
