A Great War Group of Three to Sergeant E. Higham, Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire Regiment, Killed in Action, 20.9.1914 1914 Star, with Bar (10811 Sjt. E. Higham. 2/Notts: & Derby:R.); British War and Victory Medals (10811 Sjt. E. Higham. Notts. & Derby. R.), nearly extremely fine (3) Estimate £ 180-220 10811 Sergeant Edward Higham, born Machester; served during the Great War with the 2nd Battalion Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire Regiment on the Western Front from 8.9.1914; he was killed in action 20.9.1914; on the latter date the 2nd Battalion were in action at the River Aisne, The British Campaign by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle gives, ´´the rush up the hill was carried out by the 2nd Notts and Derby Regiment in the center... . The advance was over half a mile of ground, most of which was clear of any sort of cover but it was magnificently carried out and irrestible in its impetus. All the regiments lost heavily, but all reached their goal´´; the battalion suffered 200 casualties; Higham is buried in Chauny Communal Cemetery British Extension, Aisne, France.
